*Having amazing skin starts with how we take care of ourselves from the inside out. From what we eat to how much water we drink in a day, it all makes a difference! I have always been a skincare fanatic. I learned so much from being in the modeling industry for the past 10 + years.
These are my 7 tips for beautiful glowing skin:
1.) Eat a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
Having a healthy diet is considered essential while trying to achieve not only beautiful skin but a healthy body from the inside out. Personally, I try to eat lots of fruit, vegetables, a variety of proteins, and grains. The only thing that I try to limit is my cow dairy intake because I have a sensitivity. However, I am able to eat most sheep milk products without a problem. I have attempted going full vegan, a long with many other diets in the past but have found that following a specific diet forever wasn’t sustainable. Eating a wide variety of healthy foods works best for my body. I encourage you to do whatever feels best for you and your body.
2.) Drink lots of water
(Experts say ideally half your body weight in ounces per day)
Example: If you are 130 pounds, that would be 65 ounces.
I can tell instantly when I am dehydrated. Not just because of how I feel but because of how dull my skin looks. Once I consciously started to regularly drink a substantial amount of water, I noticed a massive difference in my skin and overall energy.
3.) Cut back on sugar, alcohol, and fried foods as much as you can.
I practice the 80/20 rule. This means that I eat clean about 80 % of the time and indulge in not so healthy things the remaining 20 %. Life is all about balance.
4.) Exfoliate and hydrate your skin regularly
I will delve more into this in a future post, but basically if you want soft, supple skin, it is crucial to eliminate the dead skin and nourish the new skin with a hydrating moisturizer. One of my favorite ways to do this is to use a good body scrub and then follow up with a luxurious hydrating lotion.
5.) Reduce stress
Meditate regularly. Do yoga and practice breathing techniques. All of these things have completely changed my life and wish I had known about them sooner! As far as apps go, I have personally used Calm, Insight Timer, Headspace, and Breethe. There are so many great apps out there. Try some and see what works best for you.
6.) Get at least 7-8 hours of beauty sleep every night
Sleep is often overlooked but is an essential factor when it comes to your skin and overall health. Experts state that 7-8 hours is the necessary amount of sleep needed each night for optimal health.
7.) Use safer skincare products
Something I have learned from selling Beauty Counter ( A safer skincare company) is that the beauty industry isn’t regulated at all. I had no idea… Beauty companies have minimal restrictions in what they put into our beauty products and it’s very important to be aware of this.
This is very alarming and is one of the main reasons why I am consciously trying to swap out my makeup and skincare products for cleaner alternatives. There are certain staple products that I love that probably aren’t considered “clean.” Despite all of that, I personally am trying to make the switch and explore cleaner options. If anyone is interested in trying Beauty Counter products, please feel free to reach out. I am a consultant for them. I would love to tell you about some of my favorites. They are a fantastic company!
